How credit union eligibility works

Every credit union has a “field of membership” — the group of people it's allowed to serve. The most common ways to qualify:

  • Where you live or workCommunity credit unions serve everyone in a city, county, or state.
  • Your employer or industryMany credit unions were founded to serve a company, agency, or trade.
